A new luxury vodka from the Cognac region is being launched in the UK in June, with listings already secured in some of London’s top bars.
Sauvelle has been developed by Antoine Gravouil and Olivier Carsoule of Ossau Vins & Spiritueux, taking its name from the French words for “wild” and “beautiful”.
It is made from wheat in a micro-distillery in Charente and, after being brought down to 41% ABV with spring water from Gensac, it is gently filtered over three types of wood, including a charred oak, to absorb any unwanted impurities. It is unchill-filtered to maintain notes of vanilla and caramel.
Sauvelle is launching in the UK as well as Spain and France in June. It will be stocked at Galvin at Windows at the Hilton Park Lane hotel, Hush and Browns Hotel in London’s Mayfair as well as The Hand & Flowers in Marlow, Buckinghamshire. It is available as a 175cl magnum as well as the standard 70cl.
Boris Ivan of Galvin at Windows and Anthony Peart of The Hand & Flowers have been working with the brand to develop serves, including the perfect service of a “V&T”, mixing Sauvelle with 1724 Tonic Water over ice with a fresh vanilla pod garnish.
According to the official tasting notes, Sauvelle is crisp, clean and fresh on the nose with subtle notes of vanilla, almond and cherry blossom. On the palate, it is smooth, creamy and rounded with character, offering notes of vanilla and almond. It has a very smooth and creamy finish with lingering vanilla and caramel.
To support the brand, Ossau Vins & Spiritueux has created Studio Sauvelle, a platform working with creative people in art, design, fashion and music, celebrating their talents and helping to bring them to wider public acclaim.
Studio Sauvelle’s inaugural stable of creatives are leading tattoo artist Dominique Holmes, international DJ Charles Prince, illustrator Claudine O’Sullivan and jeweller Catherine Zoraida. Each has been commissioned by Sauvelle to work with the brand’s concept of wild and beautiful.
Studio Sauvelle will come to life at three exclusive invite-only brand launch events in London, Ibiza and Paris where the original pieces made by the Studio Sauvelle creatives will be unveiled. Each item will be connected to the Sauvelle drinking experience.
