A new outside bar is opening in the heart of London’s West End as part of The Wigmore bar at The Langham hotel, specialising in gin.
The hotel has partnered with Plymouth Gin to transform a little-used courtyard into the Plymouth Gin Garden bar, featuring climbing plants and pots on the tables where you can pick your own garnish.
With its own bar, it will serve summer cocktails including a signature mix of the newly-launched Plymouth Fruit Cup, which has been relaunched with a new recipe combining Plymouth Gin with premium fruit liqueurs, and ginger ale. Another serve will be the Shrub-a-glug-Glug combining Plymouth Fruit Cup with strawberries and a strawberry shrub.
It will be home to the “Glug Jug” fish, a serving vessel shaped like an open-mouthed fish which was used by the navy and Plymouth Gin since the latter half of the 19th century. When liquid is poured, it produces a gurgling sound. It will be used to serve the sharing Garden Glug Punch which will include Plymouth Gin, apricot, jasmine green tea, cucumber and Perrier-Jouët champagne.
The menu will also feature a Pea Gimlet, made with Plymouth Navy Strength Gin, lime cordial and peas, and the Sloe Gin Smash combining Plymouth Sloe Gin, grapefruit sherbet, pink grapefruit, lemon, raspberry, orange bitters and Perrier-Jouët.
A special list of G&T serves will include Plymouth Original Sloe Gin with orange, mint, raspberry and Fever-Tree Lemon Tonic, and another with Plymouth Original Gin, orange, lemon and Fever-Tree Indian Tonic.
The garden bar will host Botanical Lab masterclasses throughout the summer on the first Wednesday of each month. The classes will take guests on an interactive journey where they will learn about the history and botanicals of Plymouth Gin and be able to blend their own gin using the seven botanicals used in Plymouth Gin since 1793.
Due to open on Wednesday May 23, the Plymouth Gin Garden bar will be open Wednesdays to Fridays from 5pm to 10pm, located behind The Wigmore which is on Regent Place, with its own street entrance.
The Wigmore is the modern tavern-style bar that opened at The Langham hotel last year, complementing Artesian, the hotel’s world-leading cocktail bar next door.
