Drinks company Hi-Spirits has been appointed to grow UK distribution of historic liqueur Lazzaroni Amaretto.
It has agreed a new partnership with Paolo Lazzaroni & Figli, the family owners of the authentic Italian amaretto, to market and distribute the brand in the UK on- and off-trade.
The liqueur has been made since 1851 in the Italian town of Saronno where it was developed by Paolo and Davide Lazzaroni from an even older family recipe.
Dan Bolton, managing director of Hi-Spirits, said: “Lazzaroni Amaretto is already appreciated by those ‘in the know’ as one of the earliest and most authentic amarettos. We’re delighted that bringing this iconic Italian brand into our portfolio means that it will be even more widely enjoyed.
“Amaretto is a classic aperitif served chilled over ice or in a wide range of cocktails and mixed drinks and is also an essential ingredient in many Italian desserts. Growing interest in authentic drinks, as well as the increasing number of consumers looking for lower ABV spirits, will both help drive demand.”
Lazzaroni Amaretto is the only amaretto made from an infusion of the famous Amaretti del Chiostro di Saronno biscuits, rather than from an essence, to achieve its distinctively rich flavour and aroma. A classic serve for the brand is the Amaretto Sour.
Lazzaroni Amaretto is 24% ABV and has a recommended price in retail of £19.
