A new super-premium gin, made with botanicals including nettle, has been launched that promises to be “ultra-smooth” and appeal to vodka drinkers.
D1 London Gin from DJ Limbrey Distilling Co uses a very narrow cut of triple-distilled spirit, leaving out more of the heads and tails from the distillate than other gins.
It is made in a single-batch copper pot distillation with juniper berries, coriander, orange and lemon peel, angelica root, cassia bark, almond, liquorice and nettles selected by a master tea blender.
The resulting 40% ABV London Dry Gin produces quintessential British flavours and aromas of orange and fruit tea with a juniper backbone and a distinctive blackcurrant nose that works well with mint as a signature garnish.
D1 London Gin was launched in the UK last night with a party at top nightclub Boujis in Kensington, London, part of the Ignite Group which is listing the new gin at its bars and clubs such as Eclipse and W Hotel. It will be distributed by Coe Vintners.
It will also be listed exclusively for six weeks by Harvey Nichols in its stores and online. Customer tastings will take place in its stores in Edinburgh, Manchester, Leeds, Bristol, Birmingham and Knightsbridge, London.
The unique reversible bottle is designed in collaboration with international contemporary artist Jacky Tsai, featuring his Floral Skull used by Alexander McQueen in his menswear collection. Tsai’s iconic motif aims to create a strong shelf presence and point-of-sale display.
The London Bar Consultants have created serves that showcase D1 London Gin’s versatility with premium mixers such as fresh fruits and teas.
The perfect serve is D1 London Gin with a premium tonic and fresh mint served on the rocks. The Sting & Spice Gimlet combines D1 London Gin with nettle and black pepper cordial, garnished with flowers.
D1 and Pink is a mix of D1 London Gin, fresh watermelon and a squeeze of lime, with a watermelon garnish. D1 and Tea sees D1 London Gin poured over frozen jasmine tea and garnished with petals.
The D1 Dry Punch is a combination of D1 London Gin, mint leaves, mint-infused vermouth, nettle and peppermint cordial, shaken and strained over ice, topped with dry cider and dressed with mint.
ClouD1 – Jacky Tsai features a pink foam of vanilla, cardamom and champagne with blue foam of blueberry, blackcurrant and nettle.
DJ Limbrey Distilling Co was founded by Dominic Limbrey, who has a passion for premium gin and a background in design and production for international markets.
