New Square Root soda variant honours the British strawberry

Square Root soda

East London-based soft drinks company Square Root has added a Sonata variety strawberry soda to its range in celebration of the quintessentially British summer fruit.

Sonata strawberries are prized for being sweeter and more juicy than other varieties, which, according to Square Root, makes them perfect for soda making.

To create the new seasonal variant, the small-batch producer uses the Sonata variety of strawberries from Herefordshire, which are combined with carbonated water, sugar, lemon juice and a dash of Madagascar vanilla.

The strawberry soda will be available to buy throughout the summer while British strawberries are at their best. As autumn approaches, summery flavours will be replaced by pear and aronia, apple and blackcurrant sodas, alongside Square Root’s core range.

Founders Robyn Simms and Ed Taylor say the new soda will taste “like eating a bowl of fresh strawberries: a little tangy, super refreshing and really high on the strawberry flavour scale.”

The pair add: “Strawberries are one of those things people wait all year to come out and then go mad for, and this is our way of celebrating that release. We use strawberries that are picked perfectly ripe giving them the absolute best flavour and juiciness for our soda.”
