The new president of the United Kingdom Bartenders’ Guild has pledged to continue its work to support young bartenders and promote bartending as a respected career.

Luca Cordiglieri (pictured), bar manager at China Tang at The Dorchester in London, has taken the job over from Daniel Crebesse after nine years as vice-president and, previously, regional chairman for London.

Luca said: “One of my main aims is to help young, talented bartenders develop through the guild and to create further opportunities for them through our events.

“Another big focus will be to promote bartending as a respected career within the hospitality industry.”

The role of vice-president has gone to Mike Sweetman, who was the UKBG’s regional chairman for London.

Luca’s first job as bartender was at London’s Hyde Park Hotel before moving to the Fifth Floor Bar at Harvey Nichols in Knightsbridge. He then worked at Mayfair bar Hush, Café Royal’s Elysium and Ku De Ta bars in Regent Street and the cocktail bar and champagne bar at the Waldorf Hilton in Aldwych.

He joined China Tang as deputy bar manager in 2008 before being made bar manager in 2009. He has also worked as a consultant and as a brand ambassador for Italian beer Peroni Nastro Azzurro.
