New York-based aperitivo bar Dante claimed the top spot at The World’s 50 Best Bars award ceremony, which took place at Roundhouse in Camden, London last night.

2019’s The World’s 50 Best Bars list features 15 new entries, as well as two re-entries, covering a diverse range of bars from 26 cities across 21 countries.

Dante (pictured) jumped eight places, claiming the coveted ‘World’s Best’ title as well as Best Bar in North America. Since first opening its doors in 1915, the New York establishment, which serves high-quality cocktails, coffee and food, has gone on to become an international drinks destination while at the same time retaining a buzzing neighbourhood bar vibe.

New York City boasts a total of six bars on the 2019 list, including The NoMad (No 4), Attaboy (No 7) and Katana Kitten (No 14), which also won the award for Best New Opening.

London has the strongest presence on the Top 50 list with a total of ten entries. Prominent names included Connaught Bar (No 2), which was also awarded The Best Bar in Europe, The Savoy’s American Bar (No 5), Three Sheets (No 16) and Coupette (No 23).

London’s iconic American Bar took the Legend of the List accolade, while Lyaness (No 39) and Kwānt (No 47) make their debuts and Artesian re-enters at No 48.
