The judging panel included founder and editor of The Cocktail Lovers Sandrae Lawrence, Matt Sykes, director of international marketing at Patrón Spirits International and last year’s UK champion, Greg Almeida.

Nicole’s winning cocktail, Godfather’s Affinity, is a combination of Patrón Silver tequila, Martini Riserva Speciale Ambrato, pickled dry crab apple reduction, coriander seed soda, all finished with a lime zest spray.

Speaking of her win, Nicole said: “I can’t put it in to words how happy I am. It’s such a huge surprise to be announced as the UK Finalist of the 2018 Patrón Perfectionists Cocktail Competition.

“The whole journey has been incredible and it has been great learning more about Patrón, as what they do and how they work is so different and unique.

“It has been my dream to visit Mexico for years and I am so excited to visit Hacienda Patrón to represent my country in a global competition. It’s the peak of my career!

“Godfather’s Affinity represents the affinity and the community that Patrón has built within the industry and ‘Godfather’ roughly translates to Patrón in Spanish.

“My cocktail was inspired by the Paloma, one of Mexico’s most popular cocktails, and is conveniently my favourite drink, adding a personal touch to my cocktail!

“For me, being a Patrón Perfectionist is knowing how to keep things simple and execute them well, you don’t need to over complicate a recipe in order to make it perfect.”

As part of the prize, Nicole will experience a rare trip to the incredible Hacienda Patrón in the Highlands of Jalisco, Mexico, where she will represent the UK against 19 other finalists from 19 countries across six continents at the Global Semi-Finals.

If Nicole is successful, she will reach the 2018 Patrón Perfectionists Cocktail Competition Global Final the following day on 2 January 2019.

Matthew Sykes said: “The Patrón Perfectionists Cocktail Competition is a brilliant opportunity to find new and exciting talent from the bartender community.

“All of this year’s UK Patrón Perfectionists finalists have really shown there is no end to the versatility of Patrón Tequila by experimenting with such an incredible range of interesting and diverse flavours.

“Nicole has proven her commitment to the pursuit of perfection and that is exactly what we look for in a Patrón Perfectionist. The calibre of talent so far in the competition has been immense and we are looking forward to seeing what the Global finalists have to bring!”

The inaugural Patrón Perfectionists Cocktail Competition launched in the UK in 2015 and proved so successful that it expanded internationally in 2016. The competition challenges bartenders to create a cocktail worthy of a perfectionist.
