Bartenders are being challenged to show the “Spirit of Adventure” in the return of Opihr Gin’s global cocktail competition with a grand final in a “mystery” location.
Open to bartenders across the UK, it calls on them to create a new cocktail with the spiced gin, entering by posting the recipe with a video online at https://competition.opihr.com by June 1, 2018.
The bartenders judged to have the best entries in each market will be selected to attend a local final in their region, where they will compete against others for the opportunity to participate at the grand final in September in a “mystery location”.
The five-day trip will immerse them in Opihr Gin’s “Spirit of Adventure”, setting them a variety of challenges to showcase their skills, before competing in the final for the title of Opihr World Adventure Cocktail Competition Champion 2018. Last year’s final was based in Marrakesh in Morocco.
Shane Hoyne, chief marketing officer at brand owner Quintessential Brands, said: “We’re delighted to be launching the Opihr World Adventure Cocktail Competition once again. Last year’s edition was a great success – the level of talent and creativity displayed by those who made it to the final was outstanding and it was fantastic to see how the brand’s story inspired them to push the boundaries.
“As Opihr continues to capture the imagination of gin drinkers the world over, we’re looking forward to seeing the creations of this year’s entrants and inspiring them to embrace their adventurous sides.”
Now in its fifth year, the competition saw 900 applicants from 12 countries last year, with this year’s competition set to be even bigger because of high interest from bartenders from both established and up-and-coming gin markets. Click here for a report on the 2017 grand final.
