The Patrón Perfectionists Cocktail Competition has returned for a third year, challenging bartenders in the UK and around the world to create a cocktail worthy of a perfectionist.

Patrón Tequila has launched a search through four continents in 18 countries, sending a team of judges to taste drinks created by thousands of bartenders and assess their cocktail knowledge and craft.

Bartenders in the UK have until midnight on June 18 to register for entry at

In the UK, five regional heats will take place beginning between July 12 and August 8. The UK winner will head to Mexico for the global semi-finals on January 17 and, if successful, will go through to the global final the following day.

This year, the UK winner will face competition from bartenders in Germany, Italy, Spain, France, Belgium, Luxembourg, New Zealand, Australia, Japan, South Africa, South Korea, Taiwan, China, UAE, Israel, Mexico and Canada.

Entrants have a chance to follow in the footsteps of previous UK and global final winner, Mike McGinty (pictured) of Edinburgh bar Voyage of Buck.

Mike said: “Participating in the Patrón Perfectionists Cocktail Competition 2016 was an incredible experience which has certainly helped raise the profile of me personally and for my bar.

“Visiting Hacienda Patrón in Mexico for the final was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. To compete against hundreds of my peers and come out on top was a fantastic feeling and to see the response from the bartending community and my customers has been humbling and exciting. I’m so very thankful for the opportunity.”

The theme of the competition is based on Patrón Tequila’s values of craftsmanship, attention to detail and overall commitment to perfection, inviting bartenders to illustrate these values in their own creation.

Lee Applbaum, chief marketing officer for Patrón Spirits International, said: “We are proud to see the competition return on this scale, bringing new, up-and-coming talent to the bar with fresh ideas on what it takes to be a Patrón Perfectionist.

“The bartender community is a global community, brought together by a common pursuit for pure excellence in crafting drinks and delivering an experience for their guests.

“This year, as ever, the bar is raised and we are excited to discover mixologists who experiment with the flavour profiles and versatility of Patrón Tequila and who understand and share our values.”
