Pilsner Urquell UK winner named

Paul Seagraves (pictured) of Tweedies Bar in Grasmere in the Lake District has won the title of Pilsner Urquell’s UK Master Bartender 2012.

The ceremony, which was held at RSA House in London, saw Paul compete against eight other bartenders. He won a £5,000 cash prize and will be flown to Pilsen to represent the UK at the International Master Bartender Final, where he will compete against other bartenders from across the globe.

They will be tested on their knowledge of Pilsner Urquell and their bar skills in a bid to win the international title and take home €10,000. Last year’s UK winner was Robert Kecskes of The Anthologist in the City of London.

The search to find the Pilsner Urquell Master Bartender is the culmination of an educational programme run by Miller Brands for the Czech beer. This year, the programme was refreshed and improved to include a new cash prize and a new online hub at www.pilsnerurquell.co.uk allowing participants to access training materials all year round.

Lucy Jordan, director of trade marketing at Miller Brands, said: “The quality of the bartenders taking part in the Pilsner Urquell Master Bartender programme is improving every year. It’s inspiring to see so much skill, passion and knowledge displayed by these professionals. Paul really stood out from the other finalists thanks to his unrivalled knowledge of Pilsner Urquell and exemplary bar skills.”

Paul added: “I am thrilled to have won the competition. The challenge was tough as everybody participating was very skilled. I am very proud to now be representing the UK in the international final in Pilsen in October.”

October’s international Pilsner Urquell Master Bartender competition will take place alongside a celebration of the brand’s 170th Anniversary.
