Pop-up bar finds permanent home in east London

Portside Parlour first site

The team behind east London pop-up rum bar PortSide Parlour are set to unveil their new permanent residence in Shoreditch.

Robbie Acres and Charlie Otth are due to open the new PortSide Parlour in Rivington Street today (June 4) after a successful year in a site in Broadway Market (pictured).

Reminiscent of a maritime antiquities shop from the outside, it will retain the style of the previous location along with its rums and cocktails but has added a southern European-inspired seafood tapas menu.

It features a large solid oak and copper bar, sunken dark green leather press-button booths and banquette seating, dimly light industrial shipyard pendant lights and original artworks by some of east London’s most renowned artists.

Custom-built metal lockers will be backlit to display the contents of the so-called Davie Josse’s locker. In conjunction with distributor Specialty Drinks, the bar will offer some of the world’s finest and rarest spirits for sale by the bottle. Customers will be notified what is on offer via a bi-monthly newsletter.

The inventive cocktail menu will offer signature drinks such as the Squid ink Martini and the Smoked Apple Wood Old Fashioned, overseen by bar manager Sean Fennelly.

Dishes will include baby octopus terrine and stuffed zucchini flowers with Rum Mountain Honey and goats cheese. The tapas menu is designed for sharing, with set menu options available for larger parties.

Lunch service will be available in the daytime from Thursdays to Saturdays, with the kitchen serving food until 11pm Tuesdays to Sundays. A private dining room is due to be added in the next few months.

Robbie said: “We’re trying to challenge people’s perceptions in terms of what ‘traditional cocktail ingredients’ are in an attempt to introduce some unique and intriguing flavours into our drinks, whilst showcasing the symbiotic relationship between our food and beverage offering.”

Charlie added: “It’s time to ditch the pre club grub mentality in Shoreditch, and offer a truly distinctive, cohesive drinking and dining experience.”

PortSide Parlour will open Tuesdays to Sundays from 5pm to midnight but will also be open from midday, apart from between 4pm to 5pm, on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
