Neptune Rum, which claims to be “the most awarded rum” of this year, has officially launched to the UK on and off-trade.
The “bold” and “authentic” golden rum is made from pure sugar cane molasses at Four Square Distillery, thought to be one of the oldest distilleries in Barbados.
Founder Richard Davies was inspired to start something new and create a premium product for the modern adventurer.
Neptune is both smooth pot and column stilled before being aged in American Bourbon Oak casks for up to eight years.
A “top-secret method” is also applied, which consists of a specific cold filtration process and the addition of a soft spring water sourced from a secret location in Europe. According to the brand, this proprietary process is essential to the smoothness of the spirit.
The 40% ABV rum has a “peppery warmth that blends into balanced notes of ripe banana and toast with hints of vanilla, honey and nutmeg”. It contains no added sugar or chemicals.
Neptune is recommended served neat or on the rocks. However, it is also a welcome addition to a variety of cocktails and can be paired with tonic as a twist on the traditional G&T, with an added dash of orange Angostura bitters.
Other serving suggestions include mixing with Fever-Tree Spiced Orange Ginger Ale to enhance the warm notes or with Fever-Tree Madagascan Cola to bring out the vanilla flavours.
Neptune won Best British Rum Brand 2018 in The Golden Barrel Awards and Barbados Rum of the Year 2018. It was also awarded double gold at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition and a Masters in the 2018 Spirits Business Awards.
Current stockists include Master of Malt and 31 Dover.
