Rebel Yell seeks ‘risk-taking’ bartenders for competition

Rebel Yell Band of Rebels

The team at Rebel Yell bourbon are looking for bartenders who are “risk-takers in bourbon mixology” in a competition with the top prize of a trip to Kentucky.

Its UK distributor Cellar Trends has launched the nationwide Band of Rebels Cocktail Competition, with heats taking place in London on July 17, 18 and 24 and August 1, leading to a grand final on August 21.

The winner will enjoy a VIP-hosted trip to the Kentucky Bourbon Festival in mid-September, with the opportunity to mix the winning cocktail on the Rebel Yell stand.

The itinerary also explores the legendary Bourbon Trail and gives an early preview of the new Rebel Yell distillery, which is set to open in 2018.

The challenge is to create an original recipe that steers away from typical dark spirits cocktails. Entrants will use Rebel Yell Small Batch Rye, Kentucky Straight Bourbon or Small Batch Reserve.

The deadline for registering for entry is July 9. To register and receive full rules and details, email your name, workplace and phone number to Rules are also available on

Cellar Trends is also organising a special edition of Rebel Yell’s Band of Rebels Night Series on July 17 when it will host drinks industry guests and open to the public. It will take place at Lockside Tavern in Camden, London, which will be transformed into the home of Rebel Yell. It follows the first successful event for consumers in May and will run throughout the summer.

The Band of Rebels series explores music scenes and its sub-cultures across the UK that are pushing boundaries. This second event evolves the style of the first night, featuring a mix of artists that are pioneering sounds from across the globe and fusing them into modern electronic music to create heady, innovative sounds for dancing and drinking.

Caroline Pihoue, brand manager for Rebel Yell at Cellar Trends, said: “Within the realms of cocktails and music, Rebel Yell will encourage a confident break from the norm, to create new original experiences – in technique, flavour and content.

“Above all, it’s about taking a dynamic new kind of risk and breaking all those old rules. Our first initiatives have been full of bright discoveries, and we look forward to working with more bartenders and artists who would like to contribute fresh ideas and have a daringly different approach.”

The Rebel Yell range in the UK has been distributed by Cellar Trends since January 2016 and comprises Rebel Yell Kentucky Straight Bourbon at 40% ABV, Rebel Yell Small Batch Reserve at 45.3% ABV and Rebel Yell Small Batch Rye at 45% ABV. Rebel Yell was one of the first wheated bourbon recipes, created in 1849 and produced by the WL Weller family.
