Release for second Beefeater gin rested in wine casks

Beefeater Burrough's Reserve Edition 2

A second edition of the cask-rested gin, Beefeater Burrough’s Reserve, has been released in the UK, promoted for sipping with food or in cocktails.

Crafted by master distiller Desmond Payne, it follows the inaugural release in 2013 of the expression which was matured in casks that previously held Jean de Lillet aperitif. The new release sees the classic Beefeater London Dry gin rested in selected red and white Bordeaux wine casks.

The new edition was launched in Madrid in Spain in collaboration with cheese maker Alex James, a champion of British produce, pairing the gin with savoury food including cheese.

The gin, with ABV of 43%, is recommended for drinking neat as well as in “sipping” cocktails, encouraging bartenders to experiment with mixing the complex-flavoured spirit.

Desmond said: “I initially created Beefeater Burrough’s Reserve to explore a different quality in our gin, with this second edition a continuation of the experimentation.

“The resting process is extremely delicate, with the mix of red and white Bordeaux hand-selected casks crucial to creating a balanced and distinctive taste and a spirit of the best quality possible.

“The gin itself is our award-winning London Dry recipe, but it is distilled in the small original 19th-century still that belonged to our founder James Burrough.

“Beefeater Burrough’s Reserve Edition 2 is characterised by its notes of juniper-led spice that develop into soft hints of oak, dried fruit and liquorice.”

Global brand director JC Iglesias added: “Beefeater Burrough’s Reserve Edition 2 is an exciting step for Beefeater as we continue to explore both tradition and innovation in our gin-making – a cornerstone of our business since the days of founder James Burrough.

“With the ultra-premium gin category booming, Beefeater Burrough’s Reserve Edition 2 is primed to ensure that Beefeater continues to lead the charge in bringing creative, new ways of enjoying gin to connoisseurs globally. We are sure that James Burrough would be proud to have his name on such an innovative, high-quality product.”

Beefeater Burrough’s Reserve Edition 2 is available in the UK and Spain from this month and will be rolled out globally from spring.
