A range of gins has been released that have been aged in barrels previously used to hold whisky and sherry.
In what is described as one of their latest “Batsh*t Mental Ideas”, the four Darkness!-Aged Bathtub Gins have been created by the team at suppliers Maverick Drinks and Master of Malt.
One has been aged in a cask previously used to hold The Macallan whisky, giving the Bathtub Gin notes of fruit and fino sherry. Another has been through a cask previously used for Clynelish, producing a zesty expression with notes of marmalade and caramelised peel.
The third has been aged in a cask that formerly held not only Ardbeg whisky but, before that, Pedro Ximénez sherry, giving it chocolaty and smoky notes with hints of juniper and spice.
The fourth has gained notes of Christmas cake paired with juniper and orchard fruit through being aged in a barrel last used to age Aberlour single malt. They are all priced at £29.95 at retail with ABV of 43.3%.
Maverick Drinks and Master of Malt have also released a second bottling of Bathtub Gin that has been aged in a barrel that previously held a batch of Negronis.
Part of the Professor Cornelius Ampleforth portfolio of spirits, Bathtub Gin is made in small batches in copper pot stills with an infusion of botanicals including juniper, orange peel, coriander, cinnamon, cloves and cardamom.
