Rhuby Liqueur launches Pink Your Drink for 2014

rhuby cocktailAn all-female bartender competition by Rhuby Liqueur has been launched as part of a campaign to support female entrepreneurs and support breast cancer awareness.

Returning for a third year, the Pink Your Drink competition is to run in the UK, the US and Sweden, taking place at bars in London, New York City and Stockholm in October.

In London, it will be hosted by Callooh Callay in Shoreditch on October 6 during London Cocktail Week. The US heat will take place at Dead Rabbit Grocery and Grog in Lower Manhattan on October 12, followed by the Stockholm competition at Magic Bar on October 28.

Rhuby Liqueur, made in Sweden with rhubarb, was relaunched earlier this year with a stylish new bottle alongside a new UK distribution agreement with spirits specialist Boutique Brands.

Pink Your Drink was created in 2011 by Rhuby Liqueur’s founder and owner, Ylva Binder, launching it during Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October 2012. Judges included Ivy Mix and Lynnette Marrero, founders of US all-female bartender competition Speed-Rack.

Judges for 2014 will include Ivy Mix, drinks writer Gary Regan, drinks expert Simon Ford and Bristol-based bartender Jolene Cadwell.

Alongside the competition, bars will be encouraged to take part in Pink the Bar and Pink the Menu which drive awareness and raise funding throughout the month of October. Participating venues choose a price for pink cocktails with a proportion of the profits donated to the venue’s chosen breast cancer charity.

As part of its support and mentoring of female entrepreneurs, Rhuby Liqueur continues to work with previous finalists and winners, with 2012 UK winner Elsa Holmberg due to lead a presentation on Rhuby Liqueur at Tales of the Cocktail in New Orleans in July. Bristol-based bartenders Jolene Cadwell and Ash Bovey also continue to work with Ylva on education and awareness for the brand.
