To celebrate Daiquiri Week (11th – 20th July), Ron Santiago de Cuba™ is teaming up with Ian Burrell, The Global Rum Ambassador. Together, on Thursday, 17th July, they willattempt to set a new Guinness World Record™ for the largest rum tasting ever to be held, and they are inviting rum enthusiasts to be a part of this monumental event and to discover one of Cuba’s best kept secrets.
The Guinness World Record™ attempt will take place at the London Suite (formerly known as ILEC Conference Centre) in Earls Court, London. The Global Rum Ambassador will take tasters on a journey to the soul of Cuba, sampling five rums from the Ron Santiago de Cuba™ range: the Carta Blanca, Añejo 8 Years Old, Extra Añejo 11 Years Old, Extra Añejo 12 Years Old and the exceptional 20 Years Old Extra Añejo Gran Reserva.
In addition to being immersed in the highest expression of Cuban rum making tradition, the evening will be topped off with a delicious Ron Santiago de Cuba™ 11-Years-Old Daiquiri to ‘¡Salud!’ and celebrate being part of a unique moment.
Rum taster ticket holders will also be able to purchase a bottle of Ron Santiago de Cuba Extra Añejo 11 Years Old, with an option to personalise their bottle to commemorate the occasion.
The popularity of rum is at an all-time high, with premium and super-premium rums, such as Ron Santiago de Cuba™, at the forefront of this trend. Global consumer interest and discovery is also at an all-time high, with the value of premium rums expected to grow by a compound annual growth rate of 2% for 2023-28, and by 3% for super-premium rums, outpacing global rum at +1% by 2028[1]. This rum renaissance is something that Global Rum Ambassador, Ian Burrell, knows only too well. With arguably the most enviable ‘job’ in the planet, Ian travels to each of the world’s seven continents every year to spread his love of rum.
The Cuban Daiquiri is at the centre of this rum resurgence. It’s not only one of the finest classic cocktails in modern history, but it’s the number one, best-selling rum cocktail served in the world’s best bars.[2] It’s therefore no wonder that it has its own celebratory week in the annual cocktail calendar.
Commenting on the Guinness World Record™ attempt, Ian Burrell, The Global Rum Ambassador said: “As the Global Rum Ambassador, my life’s work is to bring this unique and versatile spirit to the masses, one sip at a time. So, what better way to spread the rum love than to join forces with Ron Santiago de Cuba to bring home the Guinness World Record for the World’s Largest Rum Tasting – Cuban style.”
Hannah Tucker, Global Marketing Director, Ron Santiago de Cuba™, added: “There’s no better way to celebrate Ron Santiago de Cuba™ Daiquiri Week than by bringing rum-lovers together to host the world’s largest rum tasting. We’re thrilled to be working with Ian Burrell to achieve this. With his extensive expertise and knowledge on the category, we expect this to be a fantastic celebration.”
