The team at Jones Bar Group are preparing to open their third bar in Leeds under the Roxy Ball Room brand, combining cocktails and beer with ping pong, pool and shuffleboard.
As part of their Roxy Leisure business, they are investing £400,000 in the former site of Bar Soba in Merrion Street in the city’s Northern Quarter, creating a new destination over two floors.
Due to open on June 7 in time for the World Cup, it will join their two other sites in Leeds, Roxy Ball Room in Boar Lane and Roxy Lanes – specialising in bowling – in Bond Street.
After opening the first Roxy Ball Room in Boar Lane in 2013, Jones Bar Group has now expanded the brand outside of its Leeds heartland to Liverpool, Huddersfield, Manchester and Nottingham.
The refurbishment will see the downstairs area transformed into a “beer pong oasis with a raucous party vibe”. With an eclectic soundtrack of anthemic rock and indie music, it will have 10 beer pong tables and a bar serving up cocktails and beers.
Upstairs will be more suited to private parties and serious gamers. As well as a second bar, this floor will feature three shuffleboards, three ping pong tables, three American pool tables and an arcade basketball game.
The new Roxy Ball Room also aims to be a destination during the World Cup, with a massive projector screen showing all the major games.
It will have its own kitchen, serving up Roxy’s signature menu of “calorific” American dishes such as pizzas, fries stacked with all the trimmings and their sharers’ feast.
There will be a selection of draught and bottled lagers, beers and specialist craft ales from around the world as well as mocktails to match the extensive range of classic and signature cocktails on offer.
Operations director John Crowe said: “Our new Roxy Ball Room will be in the heart of Merrion Street adding to the rock and indie vibe that the street is famous for.
“The downstairs part of our bar will have a real party vibe. That was one of the main reasons that we wanted to open up this new site.
“We envisage the drinkers of Leeds taking full advantage of our beer pong tables in the downstairs area of the venue until the early morning, rocking out to great tunes, drinking great beer and having a great time.
“Upstairs will be full of bookable areas that can be hired for parties with ping pong, pool, beer pong and bank shot shuffleboards. We like to think that we know how to throw a good party!
“Having this additional Roxy Ball Room site as well as Roxy Lanes in Leeds means that we can cater for a lot more guests.”
