Russia wins global Bacardi Legacy competition final

Elizaveta Evdokimova Elizaveta Evdokimova from Russia was announced last night (April 26) as the global winner of the 2013 Bacardi Legacy competition held in Puerto Rico.

She was one of 19 finalists who won their national contests to compete at the global final. On Thursday, eight of them were chosen to go through to the last stage of the competition.

Alongside Lizzy, the final eight were Chris Moore of The Savoy’s Beaufort Bar, Nick Koumbarakis from South Africa, Mario Hofferer from Austria, Suwincha Singsuwan from Thailand, Boudy Ghostine from Sweden, Nick Nistico from the USA and Dennis Wolf from Germany.

Elizaveta, who works at Delicatessen in Moscow, won with her cocktail, The Knight Cup (originally called The Knight of the Thistle in her promotional video, above):

The Knight Cup
40ml Bacardi Superior rum
20ml Cynar
10ml Grenadine liqueur
5ml Simple syrup
Place all ingredients into a pre-chilled or frozen mixing glass, add ice and stir well. Pour into an Old Fashioned glass filled with ice and garnish with pomegranate leather.

Bacardi global ambassador David Cordoba said: “The Knight Cup is a true legacy cocktail. Elizaveta has created a beautiful new Bacardi cocktail that has a genuine uniqueness. It’s simple to make, easy to drink and combines a masculine taste with a feminine touch.”

Elizaveta said: “I canʼt believe that Iʼve won the Bacardi Legacy. There were some incredible bartenders and great cocktails in the competition. Iʼm so proud and very excited about taking The Knight Cup around the world. Itʼs impossible right now to take in this achievement, for now I want to enjoy the moment!”

The judges were Bacardi family member Enrique Comas, Maestro de Ron Bacardi José Sanchez Gávito, Salvatore Calabrese of Salvatore at Playboy bar in London, Alex Kratena from the Artesian bar at the Langham Hotel in London, Joerg Meyer of Le Lion – Bar de Paris and The Boilerman Bar in Hamburg, world champion flair bartender Nicolas Saint-Jean, Simon Difford, founder of Diffordsguide, and previous Bacardi Legacy global winners Marc Bonneton and Shingo Gokan.

Alex Kratena said: “The Knight Cup is a cocktail you can enjoy as an aperitif, during dinner and as a night cap. For me, it’s a drink for every occasion. Elizaveta used Bacardi Superior in a way that you would never normally expect. The recipe is simple and yet something completely different. That for me is what it takes to make a Legacy cocktail.”
