Salcombe Brewery Co is adding ‘contrast’ to its core craft beer range with the launch of Island Street Porter.
Bottled at 5.9% ABV, Island Street Porter is described as a “rich, velvety porter”. Its blend of eight malts produce hints of dark chocolate, coffee and black cherry which, combined with British hops, creates an aroma reminiscent of Black Forest gateaux.
Brewer Sam Beaman said: “We decided to brew Island Street Porter to contrast with our hop driven beers, which are on the light gold to amber spectrum.
“These are great session beers but we wanted to produce something a little bit different. Creating a porter offered the opportunity to branch away from our core range in terms of colour, style and strength.
“Island Street Porter is the result of many months of planning and development and we are thrilled with the results. It is a must for anyone in search of a beer with bags of flavour. It’s fast becoming a favourite in the brew house”.
During the height of Salcombe’s boat building era, when Island Street would have been at its busiest, porter was an incredibly popular drink, not least amongst the delivery men after whose job title the beer was named.
Sam added: “Although our porter is very much a modern take on this classic ale, we wanted to celebrate its history too and so we called it Island Street Porter.”
Island Street Porter joins the Salcombe Brewery Co range which includes the popular Seahorse, Salcombe Pale Ale, Lifesaver, Devon Amber, Shingle Bay and Salcombe Gold, as well as seasonal ales Christmas Tide, Rip Tide and Stormwatch.
