Sales lift for Luminar as it invests in clubs

cameo eastbourneThe Luminar Group, which operates 56 nightclubs across the UK, has reported a 14 per cent uplift in like-for-like sales over the Easter weekend.

This continued trading momentum builds on a successful Christmas which delivered 15.5 per cent year-on-year growth.

It is a turnaround for the business which was formed in a buy-out in December 2011 by a management team including chief executive Peter Marks. Its brands include Oceana, Lava & Ignite and Liquid and it has been investing in major refits include Cameo in Eastbourne (pictured) and another Cameo in Bournemouth.

Finance director Russell Margerrison said: “These results are extremely encouraging as we continue the positive momentum seen in the second half of last year. Easter fell well, coinciding with pay day and thankfully the weather was also in our favour.

“A 14 per cent improvement in like-for-like sales shows that our clubs are our customers’ venue of choice on big occasions and, despite negative perceptions, there is still real upside in the nightclub sector.

“Where we’ve invested in our estate, we’ve been completely focused to make sure that money is spent wisely and that we have the right offers in place for the local market.

“Our investment programme will continue as we refurbish and modernise the estate by using available cash to improve the underlying business, with our next project due to start in Romford later this month.”

Last month, The Luminar Group launched its former Lava and Ignite venue in Bournemouth as Cameo and Myu Bar after a £1million investment. Set over four distinctly styled rooms, it is open from 7.30pm for cocktails and evening drinks in Myu Bar alongside the main club with a capacity of over 2,000.

The latest Cameo has state-of-the-art sound and lighting systems and offers glamorous booths and table service together with a wide selection of champagne and vodka.

Ged Gorrie, Luminar’s regional director, said: “Bournemouth’s nightlife is enjoying a real resurgence so the timing of the launch couldn’t be better. We’ve invested wisely to transform what was already a great venue into the most prestigious club in town.

“From the cocktails in Myu bar to the facility to pre-book VIP booths and order drinks from the comfort of your seat, this is what the future of club retailing looks like.”
