Savoy’s bottled Manhattan to go on sale at Selfridges

Manhattan bottled and boxedA bottled Manhattan cocktail created by Erik Lorincz from the American bar at London’s Savoy is to go on sale exclusively at Selfridges.

Originally launched last year and available only from The Savoy, the final 20 bottles of The Manhattan in The Savoy Collection will be available to buy at the London store on May 22.

Selling for £225, each uniquely numbered bottle will be hand-signed by Erik who is head bartender at the world-famous bar.

Only 116 hand-numbered bottles were created in total, each one containing enough liquid to pour 12 glasses of the classic Manhattan cocktail. It comes in a dark black bottle within a matching velvet-lined wooden case.

The Savoy Collection: The Manhattan has been made with three different Woodford Reserve American whiskeys that have been blended together, including the limited-released Personal Selection and Mature Oak whiskeys.

This has been combined with Italian and French vermouths Noilly Prat, Martini Rosso and Martini Gran Lusso – the super-premium vermouth released to celebrate Martini’s 150th anniversary.

Two different kinds of bitters have been added before wood-conditioning the mixture and allowing it to rest in individual glass jars for a month.

In a tradition started many decades ago, The Savoy created a range of spirits that were bottled exclusively to be enjoyed by the hotel’s most loyal guests. Reviving this tradition, The Savoy Collection was introduced last year.

The first instalment of The Savoy Collection – a limited quantity of 121 bottles of a 21-year-old Macallan whisky – was released in early 2013 and sold out within six weeks of going on sale.

The Manhattan is the latest addition to the collection, taking inspiration from the original cocktail recipe from 1884, tweaked to create a new twist on the serve.

To mark the launch of the cocktail at Selfridges, The Savoy will host an in-store pop-up that will bring the American Bar to the London department store. Shoppers will be able to sample The Manhattan, and a bartender from The Savoy’s American Bar will run cocktail demonstrations.

Selfridges’ Harry Gordon’s bar is also set to serve a Savoy Manhattan cocktail for two weeks in celebration of the launch.

Dawn Davies, Selfridges’ wine and spirits buyer, said: “It is fantastic to be collaborating with such an iconic bar on their The Savoy Collection: The Manhattan limited-edition bottle. Both The Savoy and Selfridges have such rich histories. It has been an honour to work with them. I am sure this will be a huge success.”
