Scotland’s bartenders invited to prove their city’s peaty passion

Elements of Islay PEAT

Independent bottler Elixir Distillers and distributor Speciality Brands are introducing a cocktail competition that hopes to find the Scottish city with the biggest passion for peat.

There is a call for bartenders across Scotland to get creative with Elements of Islay PEAT, a blended malt whisky with a peaty heart. However, it’s not an individual bartender or bar that’s crowned the winner, but a city.

The first round of the For Peat’s Sake competition requires individual bars to submit, via, an original cocktail recipe using Elements of Islay Peat or Peat Full Proof and a photo via Facebook or Instagram. The entry deadline is 3 September.

Three winning entries from each Scottish city represented will be selected to team up and compete against each other and fight it out at a grand final on 17 September to see which city “serves up the most passion for peat”.

At the grand final, city patriates will team up on a series of whisky and cocktail challenges. The competition has been created with teamwork in mind.

Angus Russell, Speciality Brands’ business development manager for Scotland, said: “Cocktail competitions need a revamp, especially up here in Scotland where we’re embracing the individuality of each city.

“We’re a competitive nation but in a united sense and thanks to the team element of this competition, it’s open to all levels of bartenders. No more stuffy judging and fluffy stories about how a cocktail was invented.

“This competition will challenge minds, senses, cocktail skill and physical ability to entertain whilst truly embracing the wonderful whiskies from Islay.”
