Scottish brewer BrewDog has exported its craft beer bar concept to Finland as part of its ongoing plans to expand overseas.

It has opened the new BrewDog bar in a former bank in Tarkk’ampujankatu in Helsinki (pictured above and below) in response to a campaign from local people.

With a capacity for 90 people, it features 18 beers on tap from renowned breweries from all over the globe, including Sierra Nevada and CAP as well as showcasing Finnish breweries such as Maku Brewing and Sori Brewery.

It follows openings in Tokyo, São Paulo in Brazil, Bologna and Florence in Italy, and Gothenburg and Stockholm in Sweden. Further overseas expansion next year is set to include Barcelona and Berlin.

BrewDog co-founder James Watt said: “BrewDog Helsinki is probably the most keenly anticipated bar we have launched so far. For years craft beer fans in the country have been crying out us to set up a BrewDog home there.

“Since our Finnish fans crashed our website when we asked for location suggestions for future BrewDog bars, we have been working hard to secure a site.

“It’s been a hell of a ride creating the perfect location, but we’re thrilled to finally be answering the call of so many passionate beer advocates.

“There is an insane passion for craft beer in Finland, and we’re thrilled to be setting up a headquarters where all those craft beer mavericks can congregate and revel in their love of beer. It is hugely exciting that we will finally be at the heart of a city where craft beer is king.”

The new Helsinki bar will host regular “Meet the brewer” to provide customers with face time with some of the world’s most creative brewers. BrewDog staff will also provide brew sessions and beer schools for customers to learn more about craft beer and the brewing process.

Cheese and meat platters will be available, as well as a selection of Finnish sweet dishes.

James said: “Finland is a hotbed for creativity and passion within the brewing world and at BrewDog Helsinki we will be serving some of the most dedicated craft beer fans in the world, and setting up home alongside some epic Finnish breweries.

“It is great to be in a city where there is already such excitement and thirst for great craft beer and we want our new bar to ramp that excitement up to fever pitch.”

Helsinki is BrewDog’s 12th bar launch in 2014 which, in the UK, has seen it open in Liverpool, Sheffield, Dundee, Cardiff, Ellon in Aberdeenshire, and Battersea, south London.
