London-based snack producer Serious Pig continues to venture into the non-meat snack market, further extending its premium range to include Snacking Pickles.
Development of the new pickled gherkins has been in progress for over six months. The flavour profile has been carefully considered to ensure the product works not only for the off-trade but for the craft beer on-trade market too.
Serious Pig’s Snacking Pickles have been created to complement the bigger, hoppier beers increasingly found behind UK bars. With this in mind, the sweetness has been dialled back, creating a “big tangy flavour balanced with a pinch of dill”.
The first crop of customers to stock the pickled gherkins include the Southampton Arms in Kentish Town, Hop Burn & Black in Peckham and BrewDog bars throughout the country.
Serious Pig founder George Rice said: “This is a very tasty development for us and a totally unique impulse snack.
“I’m a big lover of pickles and we’ve been wanting to do something in this space for quite some time, so I’m thrilled to launch gherkins as our first Snacking Pickles.
“They’re really tangy and crunchy and complement our other snacks perfectly, especially our Crunchy Snacking Cheese.”
“We’re always trying to innovate, offer something unexpected and yet totally accessible and gherkins are just that, unless you don’t like gherkins of course!
“The tension that’s created from the split opinion about them is fantastic, I love that people are so passionate about them, whether for or against, it creates fun conversation and debate.”
