Sex on the Beach proves a Red Hot solution

Red Hot signature cocktailSex on the Beach is proving the most popular way to cool down, according to bartenders at restaurant group Red Hot World Buffet.

Over the past 12 months, the bars have served up about 17,000 of the modern classic that mixes vodka, peach schnapps, pineapple juice and cranberry juice.

Sex on the Beach accounts for one in six of the cocktails sold at the seven Red Hot World Buffet sites in Cardiff, Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester, Milton Keynes, Northampton and Nottingham. The total number of cocktails reached nearly 95,000 over the 12 months.

Mocktails have also proved popular with some 50,000 sold in one year. The bestseller has been the Sweet Kiss, a blend of strawberries and pineapple juice.

Sal Bajpai, Red Hot’s associate director of operation and HR, said: “The recent heatwave we’ve been having means we’ve definitely seen a rise in cocktail sales.

“Sex on the Beach though is always our most popular cocktail because so many people love the way vodka and peach tastes when mixed with fresh fruit juice and then of course people are simply attracted to the cheekiness of the name.”

It matches last month’s Market Report published by drinks company First Drinks which listed Sex on the Beach as British consumers’ favourite cocktail, followed by the Cosmopolitan.

“Cocktails on the whole are growing in popularity,” Sal added. “Our figures are impressive given that we’re a restaurant rather than a bar. We’ve really noticed an aperitif culture in which people purposely arrive early to sit down to a refreshing drink before dinner.”

Red Hot introduced a new cocktail menu three months ago, featuring a new signature cocktail, The Red Hot (pictured above), along with a non-alcoholic version. It followed months of development by the group’s lead drinks mixologists Javed Shaikh and Rajat Sharma.

Created in the Leeds branch of Red Hot World Buffet, the Red Hot is designed to represent the restaurant as a whole and work well with a huge range of foods. It plays on the brand’s signature colours with a red-pink hue, mixing peach and plum flavours.

“We’ve already seen fantastic sales of our new signature cocktail, which launched in May, and we already expect it will steal a march on Sex on the Beach over the coming year,” Javed said.

The menu also features favourites such as a Pimm’s and a Cosmopolitan, served in large fishbowls and pitchers, or there is the choice of a classic range of shooters.

The latest drinks menu is available across all seven restaurants, with cocktail prices starting from £4.99 and mocktails from £2.99.

The Red Hot

50ml peach schnapps
Fresh chopped plums
3 drops of peach syrup
1 dash of grenadine

Blend the cocktails together until liquidised. Pour into a large Alternato wine glass and garnish it with a plum leaf.
