Sharp’s Brewery is relaunching its Cornish Pilsner with a new identity, called Offshore, both in cans and in kegs.
Available to the on-trade from April, Offshore is made with a pale Pilsner malt, creating a refreshing flavour and herbal lemon aroma. It provides a balance of tropical fruit with a crisp, clean taste and a brisk, citrus finish.
Previously at 5.2% ABV, the new brew has been set at 4.8% ABV to make it more accessible to a wider range of drinkers while retaining the refreshing taste of Cornish Pilsner.
James Nicholls, senior brand manager at Sharp’s Brewery, said: “Cornish Pilsner was popular amongst Sharp’s drinkers so we wanted to retain the much-loved taste but refresh the brand to bring it in line with the rest of the Sharp’s family.
“This re-launched Pilsner is continually recipe-matched and taste-matched using the same ingredients to ensure we provide the same great flavour profile and consistency.”
Ed Hughes, beer sommelier at Sharp’s Brewery, added: “This Pilsner matches perfectly with light fish dishes, such as lemon butter plaice, which is complemented by Offshore’s crisp, citrus fruit taste notes. The beer is the perfect refreshment with lunch on a warm day, or as a sundowner at the end of a day by the sea.
“Pilsners are set to be a huge trend in the beer industry in 2018. The US continues to lead the way on the global stage, and we’re seeing a lot of experimentation with both pilsners and lagers.”
The Cornish brewer has also launched limited-edition wheat beer, Juniper Rising, at 4.5% ABV, which is available to the on-trade until April 30.
It is a zesty wheat beer, infused with juniper berries and spicy fruit and citrus botanicals. These aromas are perfectly balanced by subtle undertones of coriander and clove, which provide a smooth, light taste with a quenching zest.
First brewed as a one-off for London Beer Week a year ago, Juniper Rising proved very popular with customers and consumers. It is the second collaboration between Sharp’s Brewery and Tarquin’s Southwestern Distillery, following on from the success of Sharp’s Hopster gin, which was added to the brewer’s permanent portfolio last year.
Juniper Rising is the first of Sharp’s 2018 limited release series after a successful limited release portfolio in 2017 that included Doom Bar Reserve and Two Tides, a collaboration with Vancouver-based Granville Island Brewing Company.
