Sipsmith releases gin evoking lemon drizzle cake

Lemon Drizzle Gin Sipsmith

Sipsmith distillers has been inspired by the once-popular citrus gins of the mid 20th century to launch a Lemon Drizzle Gin.

They have taken a classic London dry gin backbone and layered on sweet, sun-dried lemon peels and lemon verbena from master distiller Jared Brown’s garden for aromatic sweetness on the nose.

Alongside these, they have vapour-infused fresh hand-peeled lemon for sharp bite and floral notes to dial up the spritz. Each batch is also laced with a fresh lemon twist.

The result is a naturally sweet lemon gin, at 40.4% ABV, that the Sipsmith team decided reminded them of the very best lemon drizzle cake.

It was based on the citrus gins that grew in popularity in the 1930s and boomed in the 1950s and 1960s, including lemon gins and orange gins made by several London distilleries.

The gin was originally created for the Sipsmith Sipping Society – a membership group that has the opportunity to taste the London distillery’s hand-crafted gin creations. After its strong reception, the Lemon Drizzle Gin has now been launched more widely in 50cl bottles, with a listing at Marks & Spencer.

Previous society exclusives have included Christmas Tree gin, Hot Cross Bun gin, Strawberries and Cream gin and The Phantom Negroni – a redistilled, clear Negroni.
