Spirit Cartel sets out to showcase ‘agave at its best’

Drinks distributor Spirit Cartel is launching two 100% agave tequilas from Orendain, Mexico’s largest independent and family-owned tequila producer.

The firm will distribute Orendain’s Cantinero Reposado and the new Cantinero Blanco, which was created in collaboration with Spirit Cartel’s own team in London.

Both variants are recommended served neat over ice, as well as in Mexican Old Fashioneds and in La Palomas.

Spirit Cartel is also importing Orendain’s premium ranges of Ollitas, which includes a Blanco and Reposado, as well as Grain Orendain, which has a Blanco, Reposado, Anejo, plus a 3 Year Old and 7 Year Old Extra Anejo. All of these variants are triple distilled – unique amongst tequilas.

Each Cantinero “balances hot pepperiness with the sweetness of agave”. Blanco is described as having “agave at the forefront, with an abundance of orange citrus and a long dry, earthy, finish”. Reposado has a “subtle oak spice with vanilla bean and hints of stone fruit.”

Spirit Cartel recommends drinking both tequilas neat over ice, as well as in Mexican Old Fashioneds and in La Palomas.

David Hood, general manager at Spirit Cartel, said: “This deal is a real coup for us – and another sign of our commitment to bringing the very best tequilas to the UK on-trade.

“We want to show agave at its best – it’s time to move on from those ‘thin’, industrial, tequilas and give customers a taste of some of Mexico’s finest.”
