A showcase of spirits and liqueurs is to take over Manchester bar Elixir Tonics & Treats as part of the Manchester Food & Drink Festival this weekend.

The Liquor Market on Saturday September 27 will feature stalls of leading and boutique brands such as City of London Dry Gin, the Italian range of Cocchi vermouths, Colorado newcomer Tincup whiskey and the Mexican styles of El Ron Prohibido rum.

It will also be the Manchester debut for the new triple-distilled gin from the Sibling Distillery while The Bottle Drinks Company will showcase products such as R Delisle cognac and The Secret Chocolate Wine.

The Welsh Whisky Company will present its selection that includes Penderyn whisky, Brecon gin, Merlyn liqueur and Five vodka. Other brands will include Spanish liqueur Licor 43, The Kraken spiced rum, Konik’s Tail vodka and The Irishman whiskey.

The one-day event at the Deansgate bar is being brought back by “curator” Dave Marsland of Drinks Enthusiast after the success of the inaugural Liquor Market during the festival last year.

Two sessions are available for the day, with the ticket price of £10 including the chance to mingle, sample and experience a range of spirits straight from the brand teams themselves. Signature serves and recipe ideas will be available, and products can be brought on the day.

The Liquor Market also includes an exhibition of drinks-related photography by photographer Jamie Stephenson who is also an award-winning Manchester-based bartender.

All ticket holders will also have the chance to enter the Elixir Tonics & Treats liquor party to be held straight after the last session at 6pm. This gives the chance for the showcased brands to be a part of a specially curated menu for the evening.

The Liquor Market is one of the highlights of Manchester Food & Drink Festival which runs from September 18 to 29. It also includes the Thwaites Festival of Beer, a pop-up bar in Albert Square by the team from The Blue Pig in the Northern Quarter, a regional beer festival at the 100 Greatest Beers Bar and the festival’s own awards.
