Stonegate acquires former Bramwell pubs and bars


Varsity Bar and restaurant opening in Cardiff, south WalesBar and pub operator Stonegate Pub Company has today announced that it has acquired 78 sites from Bramwell Pub Company’s estate, including many town and city centre locations.

The package includes seven student-oriented Varsity bars in Aberystwyth, Durham, Leeds, Lincoln, Swansea, Warwick and Cardiff (pictured) and three operating under South African concept Cape in Nottingham, Stockton Heath in Cheshire and the City of London.

The pubs and bars, scattered across the UK, were part of the 185-strong Bramwell Pub Company which was put into the hands of joint administrators Peter Saville, Kevin Coates and Anne O’Keefe from restructuring specialist Zolfo Cooper on October 31.

Toby Smith, chief executive of Stonegate, said: “We are delighted to have been able to secure a large number of fantastic sites, many of which are located in towns and cities where we are not currently represented, and are looking forward to welcoming our new colleagues to the company.”

The deal will mean that Stonegate will have more than 620 bars and pubs. Its current estate includes bar chains The Living Room, Missoula, Scream, Slug and Lettuce and Yates’s.
