Tales of the Cocktail prize for Disaronno Mixing Star competition

The search for this year’s Mixing Star has been launched by Disaronno, with the top prize of a trip to the Tales of the Cocktail festival in New Orleans.

Bartenders across the UK are being called on to enter an original cocktail recipe using the Italian amaretto liqueur via The Mixing Star website at www.themixingstar.com. The deadline is April 22.

The recipes will be judged by a panel including Disaronno’s UK brand ambassador, Rod Eslamieh, and Gary Sharpen of The Cocktail Lovers magazine. The best will earn a place for the bartenders in “live challenges” held in Manchester and London in May and June.

The bartender who receives the highest score from both the judging panel and guests at the live challenges will go on the all-expenses-paid trip to Tales of the Cocktail in July, joining other Mixing Star winners from across the globe.

The runner-up will win a night at The Langham hotel in London, including dinner and cocktails for two at the world-leading Artesian bar.

Now in its fifth year, Disaronno’s Mixing Star is being supported via the new website, a digital media campaign, PR and targeted advertising.

Three leading bartenders will act as “mentors” as part of the competition: Salvatore Calabrese of Salvatore’s Bar at Playboy Club London, Simone Caporale of Artesian and Tess Posthumus of Door 74 in Amsterdam who was the global Mixing Star winner in 2013.

Last year’s UK winner was Adrian Gomes (pictured), owner of The Tippling House and 10 Dollar Shake in Aberdeen.
