Tennent’s celebrates Scotland with pint glass

Tennent's Lager launches a new pint glassTennent’s has unveiled a limited-edition pint glass that will be available in bars and pubs in the run-up to St Andrew’s Day celebrations on November 30.

The design features 36 wise and witty words and phrases relating to Scotland and the Scots which were selected after 3,000 entries, a nationwide tour and weeks of debate.

Over 1,200 outlets in Scotland will stock the glass, which will be supported in bar with a range of point-of-sale and promotional materials.

Tennent’s has also partnered with selected bars across Scotland to create striking window displays showcasing the quotes, including Ryan’s Bar and Cargo in Edinburgh, Braes in Dundee, McGinty’s in Aberdeen and Brass Monkey and The Social in Glasgow.

The glassware is the culmination of the “Scotland to a T” campaign which began this summer, asking the public what made them smile the most about Scotland, with the aim of creating a unique snapshot of the nation in words and pictures.

The resulting glass design contains a funny and moving mix of the things that people love about their home country. It shows that Scots are proud of their national treasures, from the “The Big Yin” and the “squadrons of midges” to the “Tartan Army”.

People voted Scotland as “a nation of innovators”, as the place “where the rest of the world comes to party”, and confessed a love for “cheering when we cross the border” and going “out on the randan”.

Quirks of the Scots’ national tongue are celebrated, as Scotland is the place where “two positives make 1 negative (aye right!)”, “where ‘how’ means ‘why’” and “where ‘hunners’ means 1,2 or 3”. The “dreich” weather gets a special mention.

Tennent’s has created an animated film inspired by and bringing to life some of the phrases on the glass. This will be available at Tennents.com as a “toast” to St Andrew’s Day.

Tennent Caledonian managing director John Gilligan said: “As Scotland’s leading brewer, we’re looking forward to raising a glass with the nation on St Andrew’s Day, and now we have the perfect pint glass for the occasion.

“All credit to Tennent’s Lager drinkers across Scotland for sending in so many great quotes and to the many bars around Scotland getting involved and celebrating alongside us.”

The glass will be available to purchase at Tennents.com from December 1.
