Tequila & Mezcal Fest brings spirit of Mexico to London

tequila mezcal fest

Engulfing you in the ambience, tastes, smells and music of Mexico, Tequila & Mezcal Fest is on its way. After its successful debut in London last November, it is returning on September 19 and 20. Taking place at Old Spitalfields Market in east London, it will feature a large selection of tequilas and mezcals for visitors to sample, plus Mexican food, cocktail master classes, tastings and Mexican entertainments.

The show was created by drinks specialist Eduardo Gómez Resendiz to educate consumers on how to drink and enjoy the agave spirits and to appeal to bartenders and other members of the trade. Along with Tequila & Mezcal Fest in Liverpool in August, it ties in with 2015 being the year of Mexico in the UK and the UK in Mexico.

The show will feature some of the world’s leading experts on tequila and mezcal such as Tomas Estes, tequila ambassador for Europe and part of the team behind Café Pacifico and La Perla restaurants and El Nivel agave spirits bar in London as well as Ocho tequila. He will lead a blind tasting to highlight the differences between blanco, reposado and añejo styles.

Other speakers will include Gavin McGowan Madoo of Emporia Brands on the tequilas of the Camarena family, Patrón brand ambassador Dan Redman, Ocho tequila’s European brand ambassador Jesse Estes, Tapatio tequila ambassador Tom Bartram, Olmeca Altos tequila’s brand ambassador Matthias Lataille, Julio Mestre of Los Siete Misterios mezcal, and Héctor Vázquez of Los Danzantes and Alipus mezcals.

There will be food from leading bars and restaurants Café Pacifico, Condesa, Wahaca, Tamal, and Vera & Co as well as Barrio Bars, which will also provide the cocktails. Tickets are £20 on the door and £15 in advance at www.tequilafest.co.uk.

Superb entertainment will come from live bands, including traditional mariachi, alongside folk dancers.

Tequilas at the show are set to include Ocho, Calle 23, Tapatio, Cava de don Agustin, Casco Viejo, Maracame, Herradura, El Jimador, Patrón, Centinela, Cabrito, Dan Fulano, Arette and the newly launched Herencia de Plata.

Mezcals due to be showcased will include Del Maguey, Alipus, Los Danzantes, Siete Misterios, Perde Almas, San Cosme, Papa Diablo, Enmascarado, Bruxo, Bue Suceso, Derrumbes, Ilegal, Mentelobos, Aprendiz, Pescador de Suenos, and the newly introduced Mezcales de Leyenda y Peloton.

In an exclusive offer for bartenders and other members of the trade, anyone who buys a ticket will be entered into a prize draw to win a hamper of tequila and mescal provided by the show’s sponsors. Visit www.tequilafest.co.uk/suscribe-london/ to enter.
