TGI Friday’s is set to begin work on developing a new restaurant and bar in Liverpool for launch in late May.

Part of ambitious growth plans for 2014, the site is in the Terrace leisure area of the waterfront Liverpool One complex and will cover nearly 5,500 square feet over two floors. With 150 covers, it will create 80 jobs

The Liverpool opening is part of the company’s latest expansion programme, which will see seven new restaurants open across the UK this year, creating at least 700 jobs.

Openings confirmed for this year include Brighton, Glasgow and Milton Keynes as well as the brand’s first foray into rail transport hubs with a new station dining concept.

David Carroll, property director for TGI Friday’s UK, said: “We have been looking for the right location in Liverpool for some time, so we’re delighted to announce that we have found the perfect venue.

“The investment reflects the strategic value of the site to our ongoing growth plans and we’re looking forward to starting work soon.”

Other bars and restaurants in Liverpool One include Bierkeller, Chaophraya, Palm Sugar, Jamie’s Italian, Las Iguanas, Red Hot Buffet, Yee Rah, Zizzi and the Hilton Liverpool’s Pima Bar.

Miles Dunnett, head of asset management at Liverpool One’s owner Grosvenor Liverpool Fund, added: “TGI Friday’s is a great new addition to the line-up of brands on The Terrace. Its desire to open a restaurant in Liverpool One is typical of a large number of leading restaurant chains, which recognise the dominant role Liverpool One plays in the north-west.”
