THE ALCHEMIST LAUNCH NEW PLAYFUL COCKTAILS, INCLUDING A TRICK TEAPOT USED TO POISON PEOPLE CENTURIES AGO

  • Pick Your Poison inspired by an old method of poisoning enemies.
  • The Alchemist new cocktail menu evokes a playful side.
  • Late night cocktails added: Piña Co-lava Lamp & Cosmic Oysters.

The Alchemist has launched a brand-new cocktail menu designed to inject more fun into late-night drinking, with the addition of a cocktail originally designed to poison enemies and ‘Cosmic Oyster’ shots complete with caviar.

Pick Your Poison is served in an ‘assassins teapot’ a trick teapot originating from China. The teapot consists of two separate compartments in which liquid can be poured out of either one depending on where you place your fingers. The contraption was allegedly used in the Ming Dynasty to assassinate an unsuspecting enemy, since you could pour out tea from one compartment for yourself and pour a second drink laced with poison for your opponent in which they would unknowingly drink. So infamous that an original teapot is rumoured to have been held in the British Museum.

Pick Your Poison is a sharing cocktail consisting of two drinks: Red – Mount Gay Black Barrel rum, Cointreau, strawberry, lime and orgeat or Blue – Mount Gay Black Barrell rum, yuzu, citrus and disco blue.

The brand has added a selection of new playful cocktails such as the Piña Co-lava Lamp, a twist on the classic served in a vessel which lights up with disco light and Cosmic Oysters, ab upgrade from your standard shots, instead a mini cocktail shooter of Bombay Sapphire Premier Cru gin, yuzu, citrus and disco blue served in silver oyster shells complete with passionfruit pearls.

Jonathan Fraser-Prinn, Head of Bars said “We are thrilled to be launching our new cocktail menu which features a plethora of innovative and creative serves designed for maximum engagement from both the guests and the staff serving them.

A keen focus of this menu is on enhancing our vibrant late-night offering and with this in mind, we have introduced a real showstopper in the form of the Pina Co-Lava Lamp, incorporating mini disco lights into a Pina Colada style drink with faux lava lamp caviar for maximum sensory appeal. Along with this are a definite world first liquid yuzu, gin and caviar concoction served in a cosmic style oyster shell. This is taking the late-night shot taking culture to the next level and will be sure to delight. Continuing our disruption to the drinks arena is our French Kiss which is a French Martini style drink garnished with a silicone tongue layered with popping candy. There’s only one way to get the popping candy off and it’s sure to put smiles on faces.

There is certainly a lot of fun and interactivity to this menu but our core fundamental of sustainability has been elevated once more with a new syrup added to our drinks which uses leftover mint sprigs and cucumber ends. With this and our existing Alchemist Marmalade made from left over citrus this means there is no waste from our chopping boards with everything being used and nothing wasted.

The cocktail menu is now available in all venues across the UK and The Alchemist are open until late with DJs every weekend.
