The team at The Cocktail Trading Co are to open their third bar in less than a year, with plans to unveil their latest venture in London’s Smithfield.
Bartenders Andy Mil, Olly Brading and Elliot Ball are taking over the basement of Urban Leisure Group’s restaurant and bar Ask for Janice and turning it into The Cocktail Trading Company Smithfield.
Due to launch on October 12, it follows the success of their first bar, The Cocktail Trading Company Development Bar & Table (pictured), which opened in Soho in January in the basement of Urban Leisure Group’s brasserie Central & Co.
The team, along with Ben Alcock, opened their second bar, Her Majesty’s Secret Service (HMSS), in Clifton Village in Bristol in July.
The new Smithfield site will offer their trademark inventive cocktails, delivered in quirky vessels with striking garnishes, with a “down-to-earth vibe” in an original, fun and lively bar.
The interiors of the 50-capacity basement bar will be inspired by the nearby historic Smithfield Market and combine an eclectic mix of beautiful fine fabrics and old rustic features.
In line with the traditions of the market, customers will be encouraged to offer valuables and knick-knacks in the hope of exchanging them for cocktails.
Examples from the menu include the Hop Buttered Bun, made with Bols Genever infused with raisins and nutmeg plus summer-spiced butter syrup, wheat beer and lime juice.
The Citizen Cane will mix cachaça with rosebud tincture, a cardamom-vanilla infusion, lime juice and sauvignon blanc. Bacardi Ocho eight-year-old rum will be combined with cacao-infused Chartreuse, tawny port and pistachio ice cream to make a Chocolate Flip.
