Nightlife entrepreneur Billy Reynolds has sold Hereford nightclub Play to the UK’s largest club and bar operator The Deltic Group.

Deltic, formerly The Luminar Group, has paid an undisclosed sum for the 1,000-capacity venue (pictured) in Blue School Street which has operated as Play for 14 years.

The new owner, which operates 57 nightclubs and bars across the UK under names such as Pryzm, Oceana, Liquid, Cameo and Chicago’s, said it planned to continue trading Play in its current format.

Deltic’s chief financial officer Russell Margerrison said: “Tactical acquisitions have always been a key part of our strategy, and Play fits well with our existing portfolio.

“Hereford is a thriving county town and we’re looking forward to working with the team to further develop the business.”

Billy Reynolds worked at Luminar Leisure, a predecessor to The Luminar Group, in the late 1990s before setting up his own ventures B&R Leisure, which operated Play, and pub business Herefordshire Pubs.

Hereford saw the closure of two nightclubs, Fusion and The Jailhouse, at the start of this year.
