The K Bar at The Kensington hotel in west London has introduced its new ‘Terroir’ cocktail menu, inspired by famous European wine regions.
Each cocktail on the 15-strong list has been designed to showcase the characteristics and flavours imparted by a selection of the world’s most celebrated terroirs.
Wine regions explored include Bordeaux in France, Porto in Portugal, Mosel in Germany and Piedmont in Italy.
For each serve, there is a page dedicated to the fundamental factors that impact the terroir which has influenced the drink. This outlines the characteristics of the region, the tasting notes and prominent flavours of the wines produced there, the main grape varieties, local produce and surrounding produce.
Float On, for instance, is influenced by the region of Rioja in France, which is characterised by a hot and dry climate and has three distinct sub-regions. It combines Bulleit Bourbon, Carpano Antica Formula, grapefruit, cranberry, Rioja, blackberry and almond.
Another example from the list is Venencia, featuring Casamigos mezcal, blanco Tequila, rosemary, anchovy and olive – a cocktail influenced by Jerez in Spain, which sets out to emulate the saline flavours found in fino and manzanilla.
Bar manager Salvatore Maggio said: “I am delighted to be launching the new ‘Terroir’ menu and can’t wait for our guests to take a taste tour through Europe, to sample our innovative new cocktails and explore the flavours that are impacted by some of the world’s most celebrated terroirs.”
The bar bites at The K Bar also take inspiration from a variety of wine regions. Dishes on the menu include chickpea panisses with ratatouille, Rias Baixas padrón peppers with smoked paprika bread crumbs and polenta chips with truffle crème fraîche.
