Top bars compete with Absolut Elyx

Absolut Elyx Diva MartiniYoann Lazareth from China Tang bar in London’s Mayfair has been named winner of a cocktail competition organised for newly launched super-premium Absolut Elyx.

Held at Novikov in London, the competition featured bartenders from the five bars that exclusively listed the vodka in May: the Connaught, the Ritz, Quo Vadis, the American Bar at the Savoy and China Tang at the Dorchester.

Lazareth won a four-night trip for two to the US where he will drive an open-top sports car from Salt Lake City to Las Vegas, stopping at the Bingham Canyon Mine to learn about how copper – a vital element in Elyx’s distillation process – is extracted.

Each of the bars involved in the competition will serve their bartender’s Absolut cocktail exclusively on their menu for three months, before the vodka is launched to the wider on-trade. It will not be launched in the off-trade until August and, until 2013, only in prestige retail outlets.

His cocktail was the Diva Martini (pictured):

60ml Absolut Elyx
20ml Cuvee de Jean Lillet
5ml Grand Marnier Centenaire
4 dashes of Jasmine Reduction
Stir all of the ingredients over ice and serve in a frozen coupette, then garnish with a Chinese fortune cookie.
