One of the world’s leading bars, Bramble in Edinburgh, has released one of its signature cocktails in bottles for sale through Maverick Drinks.

The Affinity Cocktail is a combination of Scotch whisky and a blend of Byrrh aperitif and Noilly Prat vermouth. It comes in a 50cl bottle with ABV of 25.3%.

The ready-to-drink mix, which just needs to be chilled and served, is to be sold through retail at the recommended price of £39.95. Each bottle is sealed with gold wax which is then embossed with a skull and bones.

As well as being available to the on-trade through Maverick Drinks, it will be sold online at Master of Malt.

The barrel-aged, bottle-rested Affinity Cocktail has been a long-time staple on the menu at Bramble where it is served in 10cl bottles.

It was created at the bar three years ago by co-owners Mike Aikman and Jason Scott using Glenmorangie 10 Year Old whisky, using four five-litre casks that were especially produced for the bar by Glenmorangie’s head of distilling and whisky creation, Dr Bill Lumsden.

For the original bar serve, the cocktail is kept in barrels for at least six weeks and then bottled by hand, labelled with the date when the drink was poured into the cask and when it was bottled.

When a Glenmorangie Affinity is ordered, the well-chilled sealed bottle is presented with a frozen glass, garnished with a twist of lemon zest and a fresh cherry, in which to pour the cocktail.

The recipe was described by the Bramble team as being a “sort of modern Old Fashioned” with “inspiration taken from 19th-century bourbon and ‘snake oil bottles’ which both often made outlandish claims”.

With “The world-famous Bramble Bar” at the top of the label, text highlights this as another “outlandish” claim by adding; “All a little tongue in cheek: we know full well we’re not ‘World Famous’.”

Bramble was named 32nd best bar in the latest list of the World’s 50 Best Bars and is also a finalist for the title of best international cocktail bar in the global Spirited Awards held in July as part of the Tales of the Cocktail festival in New Orleans.
