Two UK bartenders win gastronomic trip to France with G’Vine

G'vine Perspectives

Two bartenders from the UK are off on a once-in-a-lifetime gastronomic trip to France after winning a competition run for G’Vine gin.

Emma Andrew, manager of Heads & Tales in Edinburgh, and Nathan O’Neill, head bartender at Dandelyan at the Mondrian London hotel, were among 11 winners in the global competition. See below for their recipes.

Their prize trip will see them explore France’s wine and spirits regions, including a cooking workshop at a Michelin-starred restaurant, spirit tastings, a hot air balloon ride, a nosing master class with a leading Parisian perfumier, a cocktail bar tour in Paris and a private tasting of limited-release Gin 1495.

It will be hosted by brand owner and master distiller Jean-Sébastien Robicquet as well as cocktail experts Phil Duff and Gaz Regan, world-leading bartender Alex Kratena of Artesian bar at London’s Langham hotel, and Andy Gemmell of drinks consultancy The Drink Cabinet UK.

The prize was designed to fit into the theme of the G’Vine Perspectives competition which paid homage to “extraordinary people who look at life from an unconventional perspective”.

Bartenders were challenged to create a cocktail and make a short video in which they paid homage to someone that has driven and inspired their craft, whether a legend they have always admired or an artist who has changed their own perspective of the world.

The other nine winners are:

  • Martin Gouguet of Hotel Christopher on St Barth, representing France
  • Florian Drucks-Jacobsen of Liquid Bar in Tübingen, Germany
  • Ferñao Goncalves of Casa de Pasto in Lisbon, Portugal
  • Jesús De Los Mozos of 1862 Dry Bar, Madrid, Spain
  • Mirsini Spaneli of Boogie Bar in Athens, Greece
  • Soran Nomura of Fuglen in Tokyo, Japan
  • Sean Frederick of Townsman in Boston, USA
  • Tom Egerton of Eau de Vie in Sydney, Australia
  • Osvaldo Vazquez of The Cape hotel in Los Cabos, Mexico.

It was supported by leading industry names from around the globe, including Gaz, Alex, Ryan Chetiyawardana of London bars White Lyan and Dandelyan, and Jason Crawley of Australia’s The Drink Cabinet, who created their own videos paying homage to an eclectic mix of inspirations such as Picasso, Dick Bradsell and Derren Brown.

All interviews and videos can be found at along with the winners’ recipes.
