UK launch for craft beers from US brewer Hardywood Park

Hardywood Park beer

A three-strong range of beers from American craft brewer Hardywood Park has been launched in the UK through specialist importer American Craft Beer Company.

Produced in Richmond in Virginia, they are Hardywood Singel, a Belgian abbey-style blond ale at 6.2% ABV, German-style Pilsner Hardywood Pils at 5.2% ABV and pale ale Hardywood VIPA – or “Virgindia Pale Ale” – at 5.2% ABV.

All three beers are available in 355ml bottles and 30-litre kegs. The packaging features the iconic Virginia oak tree on the label and ties in with the name, Hardywood. It is also a symbol for the brewery’s passion for everything local.

Eric McKay, co-founder of Hardywood Park Craft Brewery, said: “The UK has tremendous historical relevance in terms of beer culture and a dynamic and exciting craft beer scene that appeals to us. We are encouraged by the trend towards drinking craft beer from smaller breweries and the continued appetite for American craft beer in the UK.”

Co-founder Patrick Murtaugh added: “Our range offers an authentic, high-quality, full-flavoured taste of Virginia that we believe UK drinkers will appreciate, and with the UK craft beer market in the ascendancy there is plenty of scope for new kids on the block, especially those, like us, that produce excellent-quality beer, brewed with local ingredients, renewable energy and a whole load of passion.

“The UK beer drinker craves discovery. Stocking Hardywood answers consumer demand for new, different and adventurous American craft beers.”

Ed Firth, founder of The American Craft Beer Company, commented: “Craft beers, and specifically US craft beers, offer the most excitement to consumers and retailers. Hardywood Park Craft Brewery has an impressive beer pedigree and, when you weave this together with their great story, then we are sure to have a range of beers that consumers are looking for.”

Hardywood Singel 6.2% ABV
Pouring a sunshine-golden colour, tropical fruity esters are perfectly balanced with spicy hop aromatics and a veil of Belgian yeast to give a delicate body and mellow dry finish. Hardywood Singel is a classic Belgian style, inspired by the rich history of the Trappist brewers of western Europe. It pairs well with seafood, chicken and cheeses like Edam, Gouda and Brie.

Hardywood Pils 5.2% ABV
Hand-crafted with high-quality European pilsner malt and German noble hops, Hardywood Pils is a quintessential lager beer, brewed in strict accordance with the Reinheitsgebot Law. It offers a crisp and clean quaffability. It pairs with sausage, sushi, smoked fish, Asian-inspired dishes or cheddar cheese.

Hardywood VIPA 5.2% ABV
This Virginia India Pale Ale, or Virgindia Pale Ale, is crafted from locally sourced ingredients and offers a tropical aroma and refreshingly delicate body with a bright, juicy finish. Heirloom Virginia barley rounds out the malt bill and balances perfectly with citrusy Virginia hops to give a refreshing and flavourful beer suitable for the humid days of summer or cool winter evenings. It pairs with roast chicken, pork, grilled fish or citrus salads.
