UK launch for German gin bottled in different ‘skins’

Skin Gin

A London dry-style gin from Germany, available in a variety of different “skins”, has been introduced into the UK after joining the portfolio of JBE Imports.

It has become exclusive importer for Skin Gin, which is made with four citrus fruits – lime, lemon, pink grapefruit and oranges – plus Moroccan mint, Vietnamese coriander and German juniper.

They are distilled separately, resulting in a fresh and crisp gin led by the mint and citrus with a strong juniper finish, bottled with ABV of 42%. It is distilled in Jork, west of Hamburg.

Founded two years ago by Martin Birk Jensen, the brand comes in a 50cl bottle with a choice of three different editions or skins: Anthracite Grey, Reptile Brown and the white Edition Blanc.

The liquid and design remain the same, with a minimalist anchor inspired by the history of shipping in Hamburg and up the River Elbe. The bottle is hot stamped and wrapped by hand in a leather foil, referencing the tattooed skin of a seaman.

Jonathan Braham-Everett, director of JBE Imports, said: “With its quality and taste, it speaks for itself, and this is one of the only gins which you can also enjoy pure as the alcoholic and bitter characteristic juniper note is dominated a lot by the mild and fresh Moroccan mint and citrus distillates.

“Clearly it is a pure mint and citrus explosion when drinking Skin Gin pure but it is just a proof that, in comparison with most other gins, Skin Gin can be enjoyed pure on ice as well.”

JBE Imports also handles Ron Cubay and Santiago de Cuba rums from Cuba, Tomahawk Maple Whisky, Tomahawk Rum Cream and Shefford Manor Rye Whisky from Canada, and Isfjord Gin and Vodka.
