A Spanish gin, made with the world’s most expensive saffron from La Mancha, has been introduced in the UK.
Importer Pure Spain has further expanded its range of Spanish spirits with Karkom Gin Azafran from the Spanish house of Azafranes Manchegos.
It is the first gin that uses the world’s most expensive saffron from La Mancha in central Spain which has its own Denomination de Origin.
The gin has a golden hue due to the infusion of saffron, which is added at the end of the distillation process to maintain the aroma and colour in the final product.
The gin is distilled three times using seven botanicals, including juniper, cardamom, nutmeg, liquorice, smoked thyme, smoked rosemary and, again, saffron.
Mark Low, co-owner of Pure Spain, said: “Gin growth in the UK continues with 49 new distilleries opened in 2015 and nearly £1bn being spent on this popular tipple. Going forward consumers can expect to savour more interesting aromas and flavours.
“Saffron Gin is the latest gin we have brought to the UK. It is important for us to find new and interesting products that you cannot find in the supermarkets or high-street multiples.”
The unique bottle is designed to differentiate itself from other white spirits with a sharp movement of the neck and the top of the bottle which reflects the modern era of the gin revolution.
