The Bitter Truth has added cucumber bitters to its range of bitters and liqueurs available in the UK.
The bitters add flavours of green cucumber to any drink accompanied by a light bitterness and herbal notes of rosemary and thyme and lingering floral notes of summer blossoms.
The Bitter Truth Cucumber Bitters have already won awards including a gold medal at the Beverage Testing Institute Bitters Battle this year. It was also in the top 10 finalists for best new product in the Spirited Awards at the Tales of the Cocktail festival in New Orleans.
The Bitter Truth range, based in Germany and distributed in the UK by Love Drinks, has been developed by former bartenders Stephen Berg and Alexander Hauck, ranging from Celery Bitters and Creole Bitters to Jerry Thomas’ Own Decanter Bitters.
The team overcame the challenge of cucumber having a very delicate flavour and mainly consisting of water. As a further hurdle, the fragile note usually found in freshly cut cucumber changes quickly with the delicate top notes becoming hard to capture.
The Bitter Truth team decided to mash the freshest cucumbers available and then distil the mash to form a stable base, which is then blended with a superb selection of herbs and spices.
