A new bar and kitchen is set to open in Derby taking influences from dive bars in the US and the venues of east London.
Work is under way to transform three floors of a Grade II-listed building in the heart of the city’s Saddler Gate area into The Brooklyn Social, creating a vibrant place to eat, drink and soicalise any time of the day.
The new venue is set to open at the end of April, serving premium cocktails and a broad selection of beers from across the globe alongside a food menu focused on prime locally sourced burgers.
The project is the work of Tom Warner, aged 27, who dreamed of bringing the inspirations he picked up on his travels back to the city that he grew up in.
He was particularly inspired by the casual and relaxed culture of dive bars while travelling in the US. For The Brooklyn Social, he is mixing in influences from some of his favourite bars in Shoreditch, Hackney and other parts of east London.
Tom believes The Brooklyn Social will bring something a little bit different to the heart of Derby’s independent Cathedral Quarter. “A host of the building’s original features are being brought back to life and will be mixed with a colourful backdrop of neon-lit street art, antiques and vintage furniture.
“We are building a stunning new bar and an exposed working cellar and we’re installing a vintage photobooth.
“This is such an exciting project to be part of and I hope people will enjoy the relaxed atmosphere in the daytime and grab a burger and a beer with their friends and then join us in the evening for a more energetic vibe.”
