US Midwest brewer’s Belgian-style beer comes to UK

Lazy Mutt

An American beer inspired by ales brewed in Flanders has been introduced to the UK on-trade through importer World Beers.

Lazy Mutt Farmhouse Ale is a bottle-conditioned, pale-coloured ale brewed by the Minhas Craft brewery in Wisconsin, offering notes of citrus on the palate followed by a sweet malty finish with a hint of corn.

The 5% ABV ale was first brewed as a tribute to American and Canadian soldiers who died in World War I in Flanders, Belgium. The beer style is a take on the traditional, refreshing ales brewed in Flanders for centuries and drunk by the farm hands and those who worked the fields.

The beer was awarded a bronze medal in the World Beer Championships 2008 and is available in 330ml bottles in cases of 24. It is from the same brewer as Huber Premium and Huber Bock beers.

Peter Karsten, managing director of World Beers, said: “The US craft beer trend is showing no signs of letting up so we felt it was the right time to let another beauty off the lead.

“The reaction from outlets for our recently launched Huber Bock has been fantastic but they are still asking for more of the unique and wonderful.

“To this end, we believe Lazy Mutt’s easy drinking credentials and tongue-in-cheek packaging will be a big hit with both the trade and consumers.”
