Adrian Gomes of Aberdeen bars The Tippling House and 10 Dollar Shake joined other winners of this year’s Disaronno Mixing Star at a “Boot Camp” in Sicily – featured in a short film released by the brand on YouTube.
They came together from different countries to the Disaronno Mixing Star Lab in Cantine Florio in Sicily in July on an all-expenses paid trip, joining the Disaronno brand team and a group of professional mixologists.
The intensive training course featured a number of sessions, hosted by British bartender and Disaronno brand ambassador Rod Esmaliah, including one on the science of flavour by London-based bartender and bar owner Tony Conigliaro.
Another session on how taste and flavour work was run by Rachel Edwards Stuart, a leading food and flavour expert who has worked with food and drinks companies as well as top chefs such as Heston Blumenthal.
Adrian won a place on the trip to Sicily after winning the Disaronno Mixing Star UK competition with his cocktail, Agro di Paradiso – a twist on a Disaronno Sour, combining the amaretto with limoncello honey shrub, fresh lemon, cardamom and saffron bitters and egg white.
